A friend sent me this photo of his mother. He said "Look Linda, this looks just like something you'd paint." So of course, I had to show him what I could do. I call it Birthday Blowout. I don't know her but she does look like a really fun mom, doesn't she?

He bought it for her for Mothers' Day!

It's always been one of my favorite pieces that I've done.

On the few occasions that it's been shown, I've gotten a lot of great comments from it.

Usually abot the richness of color or paint application. For me, I remember the excitement of

studying that shimmery silk patchwork, just hoping I could do it in a simplified way while still

honoring the body form beneath it and without ruining the whole painting.
